Alton Pumptrack
Alton Town Council enlisted the services of Velosolutions several years ago to meet the community's strong demand for a pump track. Collaborating closely with the council, potential locations were explored, leading to the selection of Anstey Park. This central location, adjacent to existing amenities and a play park, offered convenient access and community integration. Through consultations with the local riding community, the speaker designed a 110m track in the available space at Anstey Park, incorporating multiple elements such as a double berm and adjacent 180° berms for advanced transfer opportunities.
During the design process, considerations were made for site constraints, including the presence of a medium-pressure gas main along the western edge. Precise mapping and collaboration with a gas engineer ensured the track's strategic placement beyond the gas main's easement zone, with a comprehensive site management plan to prevent interference during construction. Safety measures and method statements were developed in coordination with the gas provider to safeguard staff and assets.
The contract also included amenities like a bike stand, tool station, and pump, integrated into the elevated start hill for riders' convenience in tweaking and fixing their bikes.
